With the Treo Pro, businesses can quickly and easily deploy a secure and low-cost infrastructure for their mobile workforce including:

- Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 to deliver increased security, easier smartphone management, and access to information on the corporate network

- Thousands of applications available for Windows Mobile to extend mobility beyond email to optimize business processes

- Integrated GPS to access maps, turn-by-turn directions and point-of-interest (POI) searches

- Familiar Windows experience let users browse the web with built-in Internet Explorer Mobile; open, view, and edit Word and Excel compatible files; review PowerPoint presentations and PDF files; and open ZIP files remotely

“Everything about Treo Pro - from the hardware design to the packaging and accessories - embodies the elegant and simplified end-to-end experience that our customers expect from Palm,” said Ed Colligan, Palm CEO.

The Palm Treo Pro will be available in September in Europe through Vodafone and O2, and in Australia through Telstra. It will be available in the United States in the fall for a suggested retail price of $549. The U.S. version is unlocked and unsubsidized.

Apple has issued an iPhone software update to help fix connection problems that led to a flurry of online complaints from customers.

The iPhone 2.0.2 software update “improved communication with 3G networks,” said Apple spokeswoman Jennifer Bowcock. Apple did not acknowledge a problem until Tuesday, and then provided few specifics about what, exactly, Monday evening’s software update was designed to fix.

The iPhone 3G, which went on sale July 11, uses third-generation networks to deliver faster web surfing and online video viewing than the year-old original model. But some customers have complained about dropped calls and inconsistent Internet speeds, with the phone often reverting to a slower technology known as EDGE even in 3G areas.

Bowcock would not say which of the many possible parts - from the iPhone’s antenna and amplifier and the radio frequency transceiver, to the baseband that processes the digital signal and sends it to the speaker or screen - were targeted with the software update.

Reports have blamed faulty software on an Infineon Technologies chip. Apple declined to comment on the report.
